Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) – Who Can Get It on the NHS?

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

We've had many questions about Mounjaro, the new weight loss injection. Here's what you need to know!

Mounjaro is currently only available on the NHS for a small group of patients, under strict criteria.

You must:

  • Be 18 or over
  • Have a BMI of 40+, or 37.5+ if you’re from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background
  • Have 4 or more weight-related health conditions e.g. type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, heart disease

It's initially being prescribed by specialist hospital clinics, and will be rolled out to GPs from late June 2025, but only for people who meet the above criteria.

It is not available for general weight loss or cosmetic reasons, even if you're willing to pay privately.

Support is available! If you're looking for help managing your weight, check out here.

Thank you for helping us keep our lines clear for those who need medical care.
